Novice Technician

Reports To: Service Advisers/Manager

Summary:

Cary Car Care helps clients maintain safe, reliable transportation for our community. As a Novice Technician, you'll perform safe, effective service on foreign and domestic vehicles with guidance from experienced staff. You'll work toward ASE certification, take part in ongoing training, and provide your own basic hand tools. In return, we offer competitive pay and benefits for career minded technicians.

Responsibilities:

Greet clients and review work order requests, vehicle notes, and history before servicing. | Perform thorough test drives and preventive maintenance inspections, noting safety, service, and maintenance needs. | Perform NC State Safety, Emissions, and Window Tint inspections (certification required). | With guidance, diagnose, service, and repair engine mechanical, automatic and manual transmission, differential/driveline, steering/suspension/ride control, brake, electrical, HVAC, engine performance/emissions, light diesel, hybrid/EV, and under car/exhaust systems. | Provide the Service Adviser with written diagnostic findings and repair plans, and assist with time and parts estimates. | Test drive vehicles after repairs to confirm quality work, and submit completed, accurate work orders. | Maintain a clean, safe, organized work area and follow OSHA and company safety procedures. | Achieve a production rate of at least 90 percent (billed vs. available hours). | Take part in continuing education and support team goals.

Requirements:

Associate's degree or equivalent from a two-year technical school, or 1-2 years of relevant experience. | Valid driver's license, proof of insurance, and an acceptable driving record. | ASE certified or working toward it (ASE G1 or two A1-A9 certifications within 1 year). | Ability to read technical procedures, communicate clearly, and apply basic math (fractions, percentages, ratios).

Physical Requirements:

Regular standing, walking, reaching, and use of hand tools, with occasional climbing or balancing. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs regularly, 50 lbs frequently, and 100 lbs occasionally. Exposure to noise, fumes, chemicals, and moving mechanical parts.
