Skilled Technician

Summary:

The Skilled Technician builds on the Novice Technician role with a focus on major maintenance, repairs, overhauls, and diagnosis of vehicle failures. Skilled Technicians set a professional example and help guide Novice Technicians in industry best practices.

Responsibilities:

• Perform NC State Safety, Emissions, and Window Tint inspections, and diagnose and repair vehicles that fail inspection.
• Diagnose, service, and repair brake, cooling, computer-controlled, electrical, fuel, clutch, differential, driveline, transmission, engine mechanical, engine performance, HVAC, and steering, suspension, and ride control systems.
• Review work orders and customer requests, perform under-car and under-hood inspections, and recommend services based on vehicle age, time, or mileage.
• Provide the Service Manager with written diagnostic findings and repair plans, and assist with time and parts estimates.
• Use measuring and testing devices to compare results to manufacturer specifications and test-drive vehicles to verify repairs.
• Achieve a production rate of at least 75 percent (billed vs. available hours).
• Maintain a clean, safe work area and follow OSHA and company procedures.

Requirements:

Associate's degree or equivalent from a two-year technical school, or 2-3 years of relevant experience. | Valid driver's license, proof of insurance, and an acceptable driving record. | ASE certified or working toward it (4 or more certifications within 1 year, including A1-A9, X1, L1, L3, and G1). | Ability to read technical procedures, communicate clearly, and apply basic math concepts.

Physical Requirements:

Regular standing, walking, reaching, and use of hand tools, with occasional climbing or balancing. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs regularly, 50 lbs frequently, and 100 lbs occasionally. Exposure to noise, fumes, chemicals, and moving mechanical parts.
