Service Adviser

Reports To: Service Manager

Summary:

As the primary liaison between clients and technicians, the Service Adviser directs and coordinates diagnosis, service, and repair work. Advisers combine strong communication skills with industry knowledge to build long-term client relationships and keep the shop running smoothly.

Responsibilities:

Greet clients, review requests and concerns, and assist with vehicle check-in. | Prepare accurate estimates, work orders, and invoices in line with state law, prioritizing recommendations by safety, client request, previously declined items, and maintenance needs. | Document technician findings, post parts invoices, and build an overall service plan for each vehicle, including recommendations for the next visit. | Order quality parts at the best price, manage returns and cores, and close repair orders through the parts tracking process. | Contact clients to advise on recommended services and needed repairs. | Dispatch work to the right technician for an efficient, quality repair. | Monitor and meet performance benchmarks for parts margins, labor productivity, gross profit, and car count. | Open and close the shop as scheduled (7 AM to 6 PM, Monday through Friday), arriving by 6:30 AM on assigned opening days. | Ride or test drive with clients to confirm their concerns, and support ongoing process improvement.

Requirements:

Associate's degree or equivalent from a two-year technical school, plus 2 years of relevant experience. | Valid driver's license, proof of insurance, and an acceptable driving record. | ASE C1 Service Consultant certification, or ability to obtain it within 1 year. | Strong computer, phone, and typing skills (20 WPM minimum), with excellent communication and people skills.

Physical Requirements:

Regular standing, walking, reaching, and handling of tools and controls, with occasional climbing or balancing. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs regularly, 50 lbs frequently, and 100 lbs occasionally. Exposure to noise, fumes, chemicals, and moving mechanical parts.
